They’re OK. If I remember correctly, they had issues with the spark plugs blowing out of the cylinder head.

7.3 Powerstroke is the way to go.

I don’t understand the allure. Poor fuel economy and two extra spark plugs/wires when you replace them... Just seems like a waste for no real gain, especially since you could simply get a diesel.

Pretty sure that was the 5.4L V8.

The V10 was a very stout engine IIRC, they just liked gas.

A guy I work with has a class C motor home with that Triton v10 - not a barn burner but hasn’t had any issues with it

I’m like 95% sure the V10 is just a V8 with 2 extra cylinders and comes standard with self-removing/sealing spark plugs(depending on the year of the engine).

We had a 2002 F350 stripped out work truck at my last job, with that V10 and a 6 speed manual. Man, I loved that truck. It being a marina, I was towing boats with it constantly, and it loved that. Then, it plowed snow like a tank all winter.

We put a flatbed on it when the bed rotted off, then a friend bought it and used it hard for another couple years; he sold it and I’m sure it’s still kicking ass somewhere.

Yea, but the V10 is compromise when you can’t afford that 7.3 tax...I was seriously looking at them last year when truck shopping because the 7.3s were so stupidly expensive.

My school has F350s and E350s with the V10. They are used for snow clearing and transporting 15 students respectively. They are really punchy, like a diesel but smoother.

I remember we taught a kid to drive manual on the F350 one summer; we just told him, go up to the upper storage lot and start letting the clutch out slowly in 1st, then 2nd, you don’t even need the gas at first. He picked it up in no time, and he wasn’t the brightest kid in other respects.

I have a V10 excursion. Average ~11mpg city ~15 hwy. I know some guys who work on ambulances, and they swear by the v10. They have many of them with 300-400k miles.

They tend to burn a little oil, the exhaust studs break easily, and on the early models the spark plugs can be annoying to change - but they’re pretty long lived overall.

We borrowed my uncle’s Excursion for a weekend up north. I averaged 13.8 mpg towing a 4 place snowmobile trailer, 4 sleds, 4 guys, and gear.

I can’t say I was abusing it, but I can’t say I was babying it either. They’re really not as terrible as one would expect. It actually got better mileage than my dad’s Chevy 2500 with a 6.0 gas does with that load.

I’ve driven box trucks and a couple of RVs with the modular V10, and I’ve never been a fan of that motor. As far as I could tell, the only thing it did well was make noise and guzzle fuel. The power output was always dissapointing for the application and too high in the rev range.
